Facts - Dental Scenario in India
- Currently there are 1, 25,000 dental practitioners in India.
- Every year 20,000 fresh graduates are added to the list.
- There are 292 dental colleges in India which is the largest number in the world.
- There are more than 5,000 dental laboratories and thirty five training institutions for dental technicians.
Dental Market Potential in India
The Indian dental care services market is estimated at about US$ 600 million and dental equipment and appliances market is around US$ 90 million, with a yearly growth rate of 10% p.a.
Growth rates up to 20% are forecast for the dental technology market in the coming years.
The Indian medical hardware market, which includes medical and dental equipment and devices, currently ranks among the top ten markets in the world and is estimated in the region of US$ 1.4 billion a year.
The total market for the Dental equipments and materials is estimated to be around US$ 50 million annually.
Increasing awareness of oral and dental health, both the public sector and the private sector are in the process of upgrading the facilities they avail.
This is boosting the demand for modern equipments and material.
Dental Imports in India accounts for around 40% of the market volume.
Major dental imports include:
- Dental furniture: US$ 12 million
- Dental cements: US$ 10 million
- Radiation apparatus: US$ 8 million
World Dental Show is an initiative of The Indian Dental Association (IDA)
Head Office in Mumbai is a premier professional association of dentists in India. IDA has 29 state branches and over 250 local branches and represents over 50,000 dedicated dental professionals as its members.

- To provide support to dental professionals in their practices and enhance skill and knowledge.
Highlights
WDS 2011, Mumbai was the biggest dental event in the ASIA, with 18000 professional visitors and more than 300 booths from exhibitors participating from 16 countries.
